NFL Mid Term Report Cards

Even the most over matched NFL clubs began the 2008 season with the hopes of proving the skeptics wrong and becoming the league’s Cinderella team much like the 1999 season and 2000 Super Bowl Champion Rams. One of this year’s mid-season also-rans will make a move in the second half, but in all likelihood what you see today will be similar to what we see at years’ end.

Oh how I dreaded those quarterly and midterm report cards I received while attending St Polycarp’s elementary school in Somerville, Massachusetts located just outside of Boston. Receiving the card was bad enough, but having it handed out by the pastor of our parish, Monsignor Garrity, who would first peruse the card and than look out over his glasses and firmly proclaim; “young man, if you spent one half of the time studying that you spent practicing baseball, football and hockey, you’d be an straight A student, was the ultimate derogation for a boy who could rattle off the stats of a Frank Gifford, Jackie Jensen and Lenny Moore, but couldn’t memorize an eight line poem.

Well now the game has changed. It is I, who on behalf of all other underachieving student will begin the process of passing out letter grade to all of our favorite NFL clubs. I will dispense with many of the embarrassing tradition that accompanied the distribution of the dreaded quarterly report; the commissioner will not personally hand out the card, although you should understand he is very much aware of your current situation. The card will not require a signature from a parent, guardian or in this case an owner and finally I’m not going to pose to you the dreaded question of why can’t you apply yourself in the same manor that your sibling or dad did when they were in my class.

Well before we get to the mid-term quarterly grade, lets’ take a look at both my preseason and adjusted mid-term division picks.
