Comments: Over the last month the Redskins have gone into the “Lion’s Den” and emerged victorious. I’m really impressed by the way this team has kept their poise and come back at nut-cutting time. Jason Campbell has matured and has made big plays with the game on the line. Clinton Portis is without question one of the most complete and underrated running backs in the NFL. Santana Moss, a college teammate of Portis, is a very dangerous vertical threat and punt return man. Rocky McIntosh, still another University of Miami alum, is a tackling machine, while veteran “Mike” London Fletcher, brings both experiences and savvy to the position. LaRon Landry is an absolute stud at the free safety position.
I love first time head coach Jim Zorn enthusiasm and believe his staff has done an excellent job of readying the club and making game adjustments.
Top draft selection Devin Thomas is a developmental prospect at this stage, Malcolm Kelly a disappointment and Durant Brooks, easily the top punter in college football last season, really struggled over the first six games of the season and was fired. The good news for the Skins in this area is that strong safety Chris Horton, the team’s last selection (7th round) is the only starter from the 2008 rookie class.
Scouts Joel Patten and Scott Campbell are experienced hands and very good talent evaluators.
