Comments: Through no fault of their own (management), the Dolphins squad is just not a very talented group and even with their exceptional first half start, are virtually certain to finish at the bottom of the pack in the AFC East division. Their enormous early season upset victories over the Patriots and the Chargers certainly were major morale booster for the beleaguered franchise, but I wouldn’t get overly excited regarding the club’s immediate future. Both the coaching staff and front office know that their ultimate success is at the very least two to three season away.
Through the early going, I believe number one selection Jake Long has struggled some, but overall I believe the club made a very sound decision and likely found a potential left tackle for the next dozen or so seasons. Ronnie Brown, is a special talent, but needs to stay healthy and become more consistent in his overall play. Veteran Chad Pennington has played has played far better than I had originally thought possible, but in reality is not the ultimate answer.
You can be sure of one thing about this Dolphins club; after over two decades as an assistant, head coach and now VP of football operations, Bill Parcells knows exactly what it takes to win with in this league and when all is said and done, the Dolphins will be made up of his type of players.
I truly believe the Dolphins are going to get there and have the people in place to get them there, but realistically I wouldn’t be looking at any real excitement around south Florida before the 2010 regular season.
