A number of critical (catch-22) type football decision will have to be made over the off season as the franchises searches for answers to a multiple of long running mistakes. First and foremost of these is what to do with back up QB Derek Anderson and his 24 million dollar contract?

Comments: The benching of quarterback Derek Anderson in favor of Brady Quinn last week will have lasting implications with virtually no positive results to follow for the home team Browns. I don’t believe the Browns would entertain any thoughts of retaining the overpaid journeyman prospect in a back up role and it is highly unlikely that there will be many suitors lining up to sign a back-up player with frontline cap numbers. Injuries to free agent LeCharles Bentley, a talented but selfish player, could not be anticipated, but the same should not be given to one of last season critical gaffs, the signing of oft-injured wide receiver Donte Stallworth.

Talent wise, the Browns simply have only a handful of people on both side of the ball that have the ability help you get to the promised land, and one of these players, Kellen Winslow Jr., is fast wearing out his welcome. Kamerion Wimbley was as impressive a rookie as there was in the league back in 2006, but has looked like a JAG (just another guy) in games viewed thus far in 2008 season.

Steve Sabo is a very skilled talent evaluator as are Bob Morris, Paul Warfield and veteran scout Jake Hallum.

General manager Phil Savage is a very decent person, but the truth be known, he has done little to improve the fortunes of this football team over the last half decade at the job.

The Browns have experienced only one winning season since returning as an expansion club back in 1999 and overall are a very disappointing 52 win and 101 loses, with zero playoff appearance.
