Scouting Report: Jimmy Wilkerson
Jimmy Wilkerson
Jimmy Wilkerson

Posted Dec 11, 2002

Were there a player that burst onto the radar out of nowhere two years ago it would be Jimmy Wilkerson who, after a non-descript freshman campaign, started to meet the potential he displayed in high school and now looks like a great future prospect.

Full Name:  Jimmy Wilkerson       School:  Oklahoma

Ht: 6-3     Wt: 255       40: 4.71

Year: 3Jr       Number: 45

Stats/ Bio

2001: Big 12 First Team, bursting onto the scene and starting every game.  Fifth on the team with 68 tackles, had a team-high 18 tackles for loss and five sacks.  Also 14 quarterback hurries, forced three fumbles and broke up 10 passes.

2000: Appeared in 12 games playing mostly with special teams collecting 16 tackles.

Scouting Report

The Good:  Terrific athlete growing into the position and improving almost weekly. Fluid and smooth moving about the field, easily getting out to the flanks when defending the run.  Collapses laterally making plays up and down the line of scrimmage and quick closing on the ball handler.  Breaks down well, quick changing direction and rarely off his feet.

The Bad: Lacks the explosive first step off the snap.  Not big, handled at the point and has great difficulty getting off blocks once engaged with blockers.  Slow locating the ball and play at times.

The Skinny:  A lot of upside potential but would prefer he stay in school one more season.
