Southern Mississippi running back Derrick Nix, who missed the entire 2001 season with a kidney ailment and reaction to the medicine taken to control the disease, has seen a flare-up in the situation once again which could keep him out of the Eagles post-season contest against Oklahoma State in the Houston Bowl.

Sources from the Clarion-Ledger have told the TFY Draft Preview that Nix could miss the December 27th bowl game as doctors try and readjust the dose of medicine he takes to control a kidney ailment as symptoms of the disease returned two weeks ago.

In the past week, Nix has added 5 to 6 pounds because of retained fluids as a result of his ailment flaring up again.

Nix needs just twelve yards against Oklahoma State to break USM's career rushing mark and 53 yards to break the Conference USA career record of former Houston running back Ketric Sanford.

TFY Analysis: This will throw up red flags at the combine in February and its' too bad.  Nix was very impressive when we scouted him this season against Louisville and is a great late round pick that should fit in nicely at the next level as a team's second back.
