Tight Ends Who Should Get Starter Consideration
Owen Daniels/Houston Texans/RFA - He's having a breakout season and the former
fourth-round pick out of the 2006 draft should get at least a first-round tender
from Houston.
Bo Scaife/Tennessee Titans/UFA - Tennessee has a run based offense, but when
they throw it, there's a good chance it's going Scaife's way. He's having a
breakout season and should receive significant interest in free agency. He
probably fits best in a West Coast offense because of his athleticism and
movement skills.
L.J. Smith/Philadelphia Eagles/UFA - The former second-round pick out of the
2003 draft has been somewhat of a disappointment. However, because of the lack
of available veteran talent, Smith could still receive a decent of interest in
free agency.
Others Who Could Find Interest For Backup Purposes
Jim Kleinsasser/Minnesota Vikings/UFA - He's only known for one thing
and he's perhaps one of the best at that in the league--blocking in the run and
passing game. Because of that, the former second-round pick out of the 1999
draft could receive a decent amount of interest next year in free agency.
Leonard Pope/Arizona Cardinals/RFA - He's been a mild disappointment but
it's not all his fault. The former third-round pick out of the 2006 draft isn't
going to receive a lot of attention in Arizona's passing game considering what
the high-end talent the team has at the receiver position. Pope could receive as
high as a third-round tender because he's a decent blocker.
Jerramy Stevens/Tampa Bay Buccaneers/UFA - The troubled but talent player has
put together a decent season but off the field issues over his career could
curtail any serious interest.
Bubba Franks/New York Jets/UFA - He's a solid blocking tight end who will
receive interest as a No. 2 tight end.
