Comments: The window of opportunity appears to closing fast on this successful small market franchise. The 2008 season showed just how ordinary the Jags were at the quarterback position, star running back Fred Taylor appears to be nearing the end of the line and the offensive front that was riddled by injuries in 2008 will need to re-tooled. Rashean Mathis who finished the season on injured reserve was the one true bright spot on the defensive side of the football. I missed badly on this club in 2008, picking them in the pre-season to capture the AFC South, but now see problems ahead for this franchise.

Comments: It was a very disappointing finish to a Cinderella season as once again an officiating crew made a critical game altering non-call on a clear violation (time clock). Justin Gage proved to be a very dependable go to receiver, but he clearly lacks home run speed and the rest of the group is in a word, ordinary. Chris Johnson is every bit the back we thought he was as a senior at East Carolina. The Titans face some very tough free agent decision this off season which could ultimately altar the fabric of this football club and the quarterback situation is still undecided.

Comments: I thought this might have been the year that the Colts started their decent in the AFC South division, but I guess I forgot that the Colts still have a fellow by the name of Manning under center. I’ve got to tell you, he’s one very special football player and person. The offensive line saw three different rookies start or play within the rotation in 2008. Don’t be surprised if the Colts don’t totally revamp the receiving position on 2009. Marvin Harrison appears to be at or near the end of the line and his serious off the field criminal problems is not going to enhance his image in the eyes of management. The Colts defensive unit has lost some key players via free agency, and are aging. The secondary lacks speed at the cornerback position.

Comments: They may well have the top receiver in the game, have a number of top performers on the defensive side of the ball. I don’t have a great deal of faith in the clubs personnel people, but after a half dozen years as a doormat, the Texans appear to have enough key personnel in hand to begin to make a move in the conference. He hasn’t shown the consistency yet, but I still like the quarterback Matt Schaub a great deal. Oh and by the way, the Texans (under the old regime did in fact make the right decision on draft day three season’s ago in selecting Mario Williams over a very pedestrian Reggie Bush.
