The number of explosive and productive linebackers the University of Miami has put into the NFL are astounding; better yet is the fact most live up to their billing coming out of college. Can Jonathan Vilma continue that trend?

Full Name: Jonathan Vilma     School: Miami-Fl

Ht: 6-1     Wt: 219          40: 4.69

Year: 3Jr      Number: 51

Stats/ Bio

2001: Started 11 of 12 games, leading the team in tackles with 795/0/3/2.  First-Team All-Big East player and a member of the conference All-Academic Team.

2000: Played in all 11 games as a reserve middle linebacker totaling 38 tackles with five for loss.

Scouting Report

The Good:  Quick, heady linebacker that makes a lot of plays against the ball.  Immediately picks up pass cover assignments, displays good range and gets depth on his pass drops.  Snuffs out the ball carrier and effective against the run.

The Bad: Undersized, slow to shed and gets caught up in the wash moving laterally to the action.

The Skinny: A lesser version of Ray Lewis, undersized, quick and tough, though not nearly as explosive to the ball or action.  Move to the weak-side is possible though his pass cover skills are not outstanding.
