VS
Toledo
If there were to be a senior from the Rocket
roster to get selected it would be
receiver Carl Ford. A tall, angular wide out, Ford is sure handed for the most
part
and solid running the underneath routes in the offense but lacks the deep speed and second
gear. Inside
linebacker David Gardner is best in a small area defending
the run and while outside linebacker Tom Ward has a little more range, he is
still a limited athlete with poor size/speed numbers. To our minds the
best prospect for Toledo is junior corner Brandon
Hefflin, a solid cover man that's flashes skills on occasion. Both tight
ends,
Andrew Clarke and Chris Holmes are good prospects for the future.
Boston
College
Its' been a rocky season for
the Eagles; at times they were in close contests with highly ranked opponents
only to see situations unravel at the end of the game. Word is Texas
A&M was going to be given the bid for this game but were appalled at the way
their season went and declined the invite after dismissing RC Slocum as head
coach. Regardless, Boston College is a team we've scouted twice in person
this season, once in Miami
and then again during a Thursday night contest with Virginia
Tech and it is fair to say whichever way quarterback
Brian
St. Pierre goes, so go the Eagles. A physically
gifted passed with the athletic intangibles to succeed at the next level, St.
Pierre is also a streaky thrower that sometimes does not see the field. He
has first day physical skills but needs a huge post-season to push him into the
third round. St. Pierre's favorite deep threat is Jamal
Burke, a
receiver that also excels as a punt returner. Burke's biggest problem
is a lack of consistency; he'll make the amazing one handed stab on one play yet
comes back and drops the easy throw during the same series of downs. Center
Dan Koppen
is a hard working blocker on the pivot and one that could move into the late
part of the middle frames with good combine workouts. Sean
Ryan is slowly turning into a complete tight
end; a former defensive lineman, Ryan is dominant at the point of attack as
a blocker and also a decent short range target. Not a natural receiver or
threat to make plays in the defensive secondary, he's a perfect number two tight
end at the next level. One player we love and have been very high on is guard
Chris Snee,
a powerful lineman that destroys opponents blocking for the run or protecting
the passer. We feel right now he is one of the top three players at his
position and though only a sophomore, will be a great pro in the future.
Injuries have plagued the Eagles on defense and just when it looked as though he
was turning the corner, defensive
end Antonio
Garay went down with a broken ankle in October, adding
another setback that has kept him on the sidelines recently. Garay's
recent injury will push him into the late rounds. Teammate Doug
Goodwin also suffered a season ending hip injury just plays
after Garay's campaign ended but in a strange twist it may have been to his
benefit. Goodwin, a rough-n-tumble defensive
tackle (a player we feel is a lesser version of Chris Hovan) whose plight
was well documented in the media, was going to turn pro to help defray his
father's medical bills even though he is not ready for the next level. The
injury should now force him to stay in school, which is his best option from a
football point of view. Linebacker
Vinny
Ciurciu and safety Ralph
Parent are free agent rookies that could make a squad on the
two-deep and become frontline special teams players.
