VS
Purdue
The Boilermakers best pro-prospect
would be safety Stuart Schweigert, though an argument could be put up on the
behalf of
receiver Tony Stubblefield;
both are underclassmen. Schweigert
is a hard hitting safety that makes a lot of positive plays but to our minds
not as good as the headlines many bestow on him. We feel his is another version of Jon McGraw,
the Kansas State safety taken in round two last April by the New York
Jets. Stubblefield is an explosive skill player that impacts the game as
both as receiver or return specialist. Small to the point of tiny,
Stubblefield will be downgraded
accordingly when he enters the draft. Tackle
Pete Lougheed and center
Gene Mruczkowski
are both rough-n-tumble blockers with an appetite for contact but limited
athletes with only marginal upside potential. We've tracked Mruczkowski
since he was a freshman and his ability to effectively play center or guard will
attract attention.
Washington
The Huskies best player and top
pro-prospect would be Reggie Williams, a true sophomore receiver that has star
potential in the future and a player that really stands out on film. Running back turned
receiver Paul Arnold is a sensational athlete
with great top end speed and a second gear but only a marginal football
player. Suffering with injuries early in college, Arnold seemed to
develop nicely as a pass catcher in 2001 and we expect many to be talking about
him after pre-draft workouts. He is practice squad material and worth a
late round look. Tight
end Kevin Ware fits in that
mold; a good athlete
developing his football skills and a prospect that should be considered in the
late frames. Kai Ellis is a little underrated and has some size/speed
concerns but in time we feel he will be a very nice four-three defensive
end. Linebacker Ben Mahdavi plays an intense brand of football but
also has size/speed concerns and may be relegated to reserve at the next level.
