Cornerback Vontae Davis could easily let most of his Combine numbers stand as he prepares for Wednesday's Pro Day at Illinois. But the competitive corner wants to take a shot at making an even bolder statement.

Illinois' star cornerback, Vontae Davis, has told Scout.com that he plans to run the L-Drill (three-cone), the 40-yard dash and compete in the vertical jump at the school's Pro Day on Wednesday, March 18. He'll also showcase his talent in position drills for NFL scouts, coaches and general managers.

The projected first-round pick obviously wants to continue to make his case for consideration as the top cornerback selected overall in this year's NFL Draft.

Davis could easily let the numbers that he posted at the NFL Scouting Combine stand and just wait around until the position drills got rolling. He finished second among players at his position in the 40-yard dash with a 4.49-second time. And his 6.75-second time in the three-cone drill was sixth-best.

Even though he's opting to perform a few drills again, Davis believes that his performance in Indianapolis, along with the opportunity to interact with NFL coaches was very beneficial to his draft stock.

"I feel that most coaches saw how much of a physical specimen I am as a cornerback and my maturity level," he said. "I think showing that maturity is important when you're coming into the NFL as a junior."

The highly competitive and athletic defender won't participate in the bench press since he already made quite a statement regarding his strength by logging 25 reps at the Combine, best among all players at his position.

The Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles were just a few of the more than 20 teams who held formal interviews with him at the Combine.
