VS
Florida
A new coach, a new
offense but many of the same solid players took the field in Gainesville this
season. Quarterback
Rex Grossman may turn pro
this April but it could be a year to late; he barely turned in an adequate campaign
in '02 and really did not embrace the
offense. A glut of signal callers coupled with the Skins seemingly happy with
Pat Ramsey may have Grossman sliding out of the top 32. One player that's befitted
from the quandary of
receiver problems was Taylor
Jacobs, who himself had an injury scare late in the year. Jacobs
is as natural a pass catcher as you'll find and a terrific football player
worthy of a late first round pick. Max
Starks recently stated he will remain in college, though that could
change. Starks had a shaky start after moving from right tackle
to the
weak-side but really came on as the season progressed. He would be a top
20 pick this April and possibly a top ten choice in 2004 if he continues to
progress. Aaron
Walker did not have the season most expected but his teammate
Ben
Troupe is looked upon by scouts as a much more complete tight
end. Running
back Earnest
Graham lost a lot of carries this year for a multitude of reasons and
will slide on draft day; don't be surprised in the Skins take a flyer on him in
round three where he'd be good value. Guard
Shannon Schnell had a solid
campaign but would be making a mistake entering the draft. Defensively tackle
Ian
Scott did not have a great season and backed off from his original desire
tom enter the draft while end
Clint
Mitchell would be making a huge mistake should he enter. The
younger brother of former UF center Jeff Mitchell, Clint was a good looking pass
rusher until he ran into troubles which kept him on the sidelines in 2001.
While he displayed flashes this season it did not look like he was totally back
to prior form. Todd Johnson could move into the first day if he runs
well prior to April while outside linebacker Byron
Hardmon may surprise on draft day.
Michigan
The Wolverines
best pro-prospects are true sophomores and underclassmen while the senior class
may be hard pressed to turn up a single first day choice. Two prospects have
a chance; B.J.
Askew is an athletic fullback
that does a terrific job catching the
ball out of the backfield but is not dominant at the point of attack handling
his blocking duties while Victor
Hobson has been a very productive college linebacker but lacks the
size/speed numbers teams look for. Hobson plays like a strong side linebacker,
is built for the weak side and runs like an inside 'backer. Bennie
Joppru is an efficient and hard working tight
end but just does not
have the size/speed numbers to move him into the first three rounds. Receiver
Ronald
Bellamy stepped his game up this season but again, did not have the
breakout campaign needed to catch scouts eyes. Of the three safety's UM
rotates, Cato June, Julius
Curry and Charles Drake, it is Drake that'll probably hear his name
called first in the middle frames. Junior tackle
Tony
Pape is a favorite of ours and a good looking left side player while
rush
end Shantee
Orr combines speed and athleticism with the abilities to play off the
line of scrimmage. A knee injury knocked him out during the middle of the
season but he's one to watch for next year.
