We’re a month away from the biggest offseason spectacle on the NFL calendar, and soon the NFL Universe will be immersed with intrigue as to who will be the No. 1 pick. The free agency period has set the stage for the 2009 NFL Draft and which players the teams will possibly pursue as they build their team for the present and the future.
The infusion of young talent in this year’s draft is obvious, as I project 17 seniors and 15 underclassmen being selected in the first round. It’s been close to a month since my last mock draft update, and a lot has occurred since that time. The Combine results and Pro Day performances have altered the scope of the draft landscape. But I still believe USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, who I’ve had going No. 1 since he declared in January, will be selected by the Detroit Lions, barring a trade.
With that said, the intrigue builds as we get closer to the day that will change the lives of approximately 252 players. But for now, I’m going to forecast the future of 64 players.
