Each year there are a few prospects that slip through the cracks or appear as diamonds in the rough…
Scouting Report: Josh Jeffries
Name: Josh Jeffries School: Appalachian St Year: 4Sr Ht: 6-0.5 Wt: 255 40: 5.03 Pos: DE Bio: Three year starter voted All-American and All-Conference choice the past two seasons. Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a senior with 81 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 8.0 sacks in twelve games. Posted 64/17/14 as a junior after 61 tackles in 2000. Pos: Tough, hard-working defender but a 'tweener for the next level. Breaks down well, plays low with leverage and works hard. Displays a good head for the game, disciplined and stays with his assignments. Wraps up tackling and strong at the point of attack. Stood up over tackle or lined up in a three-point stance with equal effectiveness. Neg: Not explosive off the snap, lacks the quick, fluid change of direction and is slow shedding blocks once engaged with opponents. Would not be considered a great edge rusher as he does not display top speed off the corner. Analysis: Lack of height may limit his growth potential and he's a little slow to be moved to outside linebacker. Could find a home in a three-four scheme over tackle.
