Pre-Draft Team Needs: Green Bay Packers

Ted Thompson (AP)

The Packers tend to stay out of free agency under executive V.P., general manager & director of football operations Ted Thompson. Rather, they choose to build their team through the draft.

Players Added

Tim Masthay/P - He went undrafted last year, but will get a chance to win a job with Green Bay. Masthay currently only has to beat out another undrafted punter, Chris Bryan, for the starting job.

Players Lost

Ahman Green/RB - The veteran back probably won't be re-signed unless the team suffers an injury at the position.

Deshawn Wynn/RB - He worked out for the Seattle Seahawks recently. The Packers are said to have interest in re-signing him, but didn't tender Wynn as a restricted free agent.

Michael Montgomery/DE - He probably fits better in a 4-3 defensive scheme than a 3-4, which is probably why Green Bay released him.

Aaron Kampman/DE-OLB - The veteran defender didn't fit in at all in Green Bay's 3-4 scheme. He'll fit in much better with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are moving back to a 4-3.

Matt Giordano/S - The Packers released him last month, but the special teamer found a new home with the Atlanta Falcons.

Pre-Draft Team Needs

Cornerback - With 35-year old starter Al Harris coming back from a torn ACL, Green Bay needs to find his eventual replacement. It remains to be seen if Patrick Lee or Tramon Williams are ready to replace him.

Outside Linebacker - While Brad Jones turned out to be a nice surprise for the team last season as a rookie, Green Bay could use a few quality pass rushers for their 3-4 defensive scheme.

Left Tackle - Starter Chad Clifton re-signed for just one season and turns 34 in June. His potential replacement doesn't appear to be on their 80-man roster.
