It's been a long offseason, but we're just a week away from the 2010 NFL Draft. Teams are making their final preparations for the annual spring spectacle, and are getting their draft boards finalized for the new (three-day) draft structure. As I prepare to forecast the future of 64 NFL prospects, my latest attempt serves as the precursor to my final version, which will be released on Wednesday, April 21st.
In my current mock draft, I projected 16 seniors and 16 underclassmen being selected in the first round, but in the second frame the seniors over take the underclassmen, 19 - 13. The St. Louis Rams kick things off once again and continue to favor a certain wide receiver from South Bend.

The Rams are starved for talent on offense and defense. After drafting Bradford in the 1st round, they could address their defense with this pick. But they continue to build on offense and give Bradford a legitimate weapon in Tate.

The Lions are like the Rams and have many holes. But the ACL injury to Kevin Smith puts the Lions in a tough situation at running back. With Best on the board, he provides the Lions with an explosive option.

The Buccaneers have to give Josh Freeman a WR to grow with, and since Antonio Bryant signed with the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason, the addition of Benn is exactly what the Bucs need on offense.

The Chiefs will look towards defense with this selection and could take the best player available. Cam Thomas is possible and would provide them with a big interior force, but Kindle has first round talent and has the pass rushing ability that fits well in their 3-4 scheme.

The Eagles acquired this pick from the Redskins in the Donovan McNabb trade. The Eagles know that this draft is one of the best defensive drafts in recent memory and have a great desire to take advantage of it. They have a bad track record of drafting LBs in the second round, but Washington is versatile and can play all three LB positions.

The Browns have a new regime in place in the front office, and drafting a young signal caller of their own has to be a priority. Despite signing Jake Delhomme and trading for Seneca Wallace, drafting McCoy gives the Browns a savvy, smart QB and a battle tested leader.

Buffalo Head Coach Chan Gailey said that the Bills quarterback situation will be a competition between Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm. So, if it's a competition, why not add another QB to the mix - Tebow won't win the job right away, but gives the Bills their QB of the future.

After passing up Dez Bryant in the first round, the Dolphins have to add a playmaker with this pick. They could draft a smaller, more elusive player like Dexter McCluster, but they need a big WR down field. The Dolphins are hoping Patrick Turner develops into that guy, but Thomas is already that type of player.

There are plenty of names that will standout to the Steelers, but the one who is the most intriguing, has great upside and local ties is Owusu-Ansah.
