Arizona Cardinals
Saturday: Traded CB Bryant McFadden and a 2010 sixth-round pick to the
Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2010 fifth-round pick.
Comments: Second-year CB Greg Toler figures to take over for McFadden in the
starting lineup. The trade leaves the Cardinals thin on depth at cornerback.
Atlanta Falcons
Monday: Placed TE Jason Rader on the Reserve/Retired list, re-signed RB Jerious
Norwood, re-signed P Michael Koenen.
Comments: Norwood and Koenen signed their one-year RFA tenders.
Baltimore Ravens
Monday: Re-signed WR Demetrius Williams, re-signed OT Tony Moll.
Comments: Both players signed their one-year RFA tenders.
Buffalo Bills
Tuesday: Claimed TE Michael Matthews off of waivers from the Detroit Lions.
Carolina Panthers
Tuesday: Re-signed LB James Anderson, re-signed DE Louis Leonard, re-signed CB
C.J. Wilson.
Comments: All three players signed their one-year RFA tenders.
Chicago Bears
Monday: Re-signed LB Nick Roach.
Wednesday: Re-signed LB Jamar Williams.
Sunday: Signed the following undrafted free agents: RB Brandon Minor, WRs
Freddie Barnes and Greg Mathews, Antonio Robinson, OT Levi Horn, C Tim Walter,
DT Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, DEs Lawrence Wilson and Barry Turner, LB Matt
Mayberry, and S Quentin Scott.
Comments: Roach and Williams signed their one-year RFA tenders.
Williams did a nice job of filling in for injured starter SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa
last season.
Cincinnati Bengals
Tuesday: Re-signed G Evan Mathis.
Friday: Signed K Mike Nugent.
Comments: Mathis signed his one-year RFA tender.
Nugent will compete against Dave Rayner for the kicker job.
Cleveland Browns
Dallas Cowboys
Denver Broncos
Monday: Traded TE Tony Scheffler and a seventh-round pick to the Detroit Lions
and acquired a fifth-round pick (137th overall via Cleveland) from the
Philadelphia Eagles.
Comments: The coaching staff had soured on Scheffler, so it comes to no surprise
that they moved him. The problem for Denver is they have little athleticism left
at the position.
Detroit Lions
Monday: Traded LB Ernie Sims to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Denver
Broncos TE Tony Scheffler and a seventh-round pick from Denver (220th overall),
waived TE Michael Matthews, claimed G Trevor Canfield off waivers from the
Seattle Seahawks.
Tuesday: Re-signed S Daniel Bullocks.
Comments: This is a good deal for Detroit. Sims never really lived up to his
lofty draft status in 2006 and the current front office and coaching staff were
not involved with that draft. Veteran LB Landon Johnson figures to take over at
WLB for the Lions.
Scheffler really adds badly needed athleticism to the tight end position for the
Lions.
As first reported by Scout.com, Bullocks signed his one-year RFA tender.
Green Bay Packers
Houston Texans
Indianapolis Colts
Jacksonville Jaguars
Wednesday: Traded DE/LB Quentin Groves to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for a
fifth-round pick.
Saturday: Acquired LB Kirk Morrison and a 2010 fifth-round pick from the Oakland
Raiders in exchange for a 2010 fourth-round pick.
Signed the following undrafted free agents: QB Trevor Harris, RB Chad Kackert,
FB Ben Stallings, WRs Chris McGaha, Roren Thomas, and Jason Harmon, OTs Kevin
Haslam and Daniel Baldridge, G John Estes, TE Mike Caussin, P Robert Malone, DT
Kommonya Quaye, LBs Kyle Bosworth and Jacob Cutera, CB Chris Hawkins and Josh
Gordy, and S Terrell Whitehead.
Comments: Groves had been a big disappointment for the Jaguars, but he'll get a
chance to revive his career with the Raiders.
Morrison figures to compete for the MLB job against Justin Durant.
Kansas City Chiefs
Tuesday: Re-signed LB Corey Mays.
Sunday: Signed the following undrafted free agents: FB Tevaris Johnson, WR Rich
Gunnell, WR Jeremy Horne-Murdock, TE T.C Drake, OL Tyler Eastman, OL Nick
Landry, OL Andrew Lewis, OL Lemuel Jeanpierre, DL Garrett Brown, LB Justin Cole,
and LB Michael Johnson.
Comments: Mays signed his one-year RFA tender. Mays turned out to be a nice
surprise last season for the Chiefs.
Miami Dolphins
Tuesday: Re-signed LB Quentin Moses.
Friday: Acquired LB Tim Dobbins along with 2010 first, fourth, and sixth-round
picks from the San Diego Chargers in exchange for 2010 first, second, and
fourth-round picks.
Comments: Moses signed his one-year RFA tender.
Dobbins should see time on special teams in addition to challenging ILB Channing
Crowder for playing time.
Minnesota Vikings
Monday: Re-signed QB Tarvaris Jackson.
Wednesday: Signed CB Lito Sheppard.
Comments: Jackson signed his one-year RFA tender.
Sheppard will provide insurance for starting CB Cedric Griffin who is coming
back from an ACL injury.
New England Patriots
Monday: Re-signed LB Pierre Woods.
Tuesday: Signed WR Torry Holt.
Wednesday: Signed DL Amon Gordon.
Saturday: Signed DT Gerard Warren.
Comments: Holt will give the team some badly needed veteran depth at receiver.
Woods signed his one-year RFA tender.
Gordon fits in at defensive end in New England's 3-4 defense. Warren will be
able to give the team better depth on their defensive line.
New Orleans Saints
Tuesday: Re-signed WR Courtney Roby, re-signed LB Marvin Mitchell, re-signed S
Usama Young, signed DE Jimmy Wilkerson.
Comments: The first three players signed their one-year RFA tenders. Wilkerson,
who signed for a year, will provide depth at defensive end.
New York Giants
New York Jets
Wednesday: Signed OLB Jason Taylor.
Saturday: Released G Alan Faneca, traded RB Leon Washington to the Seattle
Seahawks and a 2010 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2010 fifth-round pick.
Comments: Taylor played in 80 percent of the defensive snaps last season for the
Dolphins, but it's more likely that he sees about 30-50 percent of the defensive
snaps with the Jets. He'll probably rotate with starting OLB Bryan Thomas.
The Jets released Faneca despite still owing him $5.2 million of his $7.5
million base salary for 2010. Second-round pick Vladimir Ducasse and second-year
G Matt Slauson will compete for the starting LG job.
The Jets drafted RB Joe McKnight in the fourth round. He figures to handle
Washington's change of pace role.
Oakland Raiders
Wednesday: Acquired DE/OLB Quentin Groves from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2010
fifth-round pick.
Saturday: Traded LB Kirk Morrison and a 2010 fifth-round pick to the
Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2010 fourth-round pick, acquired QB Jason
Campbell from the Washington Redskins in exchange for a 2012 fourth-round pick.
Comments: Groves will provide depth at DE.
First-round pick Rolando McClain will take over for Morrison at MLB.
Campbell will get a chance to compete for the starting job against JaMarcus
Russell and Bruce Gradkowski.
Philadelphia Eagles
Monday: Acquired LB Ernie Sims from the Detroit Lions in a three-way trade. In
exchange, they traded a fifth-round pick to the Denver Broncos.
Thursday: Re-signed P Sav Rocca.
Comments: Sims will immediately compete for the starting WLB job against Akeem
Jordan.
Rocca signed his one-year RFA tender.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Tuesday: Acquired QB Byron Leftwich from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 2010
seventh-round pick.
Saturday: Acquired CB Bryant McFadden and a 2010 sixth-round pick from the
Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2010 fifth-round pick.
Comments: With starting QB Ben Roethlisberger suspended for at
least four games, the team wanted to get some insurance. Leftwich played for the
Steelers in 2008.
With the struggles of CB William Gay last season, and with veteran CB Deshea
Townsend unsigned, the team felt the need to add another veteran cornerback to
roster.
San Diego Chargers
Monday: Re-signed LB Tim Dobbins.
Tuesday: Re-signed LB Antwan Applewhite.
Friday: Traded LB Tim Dobbins along with 2010 first, fourth, and sixth-round
picks to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for 2010 first, second, and fourth-round
picks.
Comments: Applewhite was an exclusive
rights free agent.
San Francisco 49ers
Friday: Signed DE/OLB Travis LaBoy.
Seattle Seahawks
Tuesday: Signed OL Ben Hamilton.
Saturday: Acquired RB Leon Washington and a 2010 seventh-round pick from the New
York Jets in exchange for a 2010 fifth-round pick, acquired RB LenDale White, DT
Kevin Vickerson, 2010 fourth and sixth-round picks from Tennessee Titans in
exchange for 2010 fourth and sixth-round picks.
Added the following undrafted free agents: WR Quintin Hancock, TE Patrick
Devenny, OT Kyle Burkhart, C Adrian Martinez, OT Jacob Phillips, DT DeMarcus
Granger, DE Rob Rose, LBs Reggie Carter, Joe Pawelek, and Kevin Dixon, Ss James
Brindley and Will Harris, CBs Marcus Brown and Josh Pinkard.
Comments: Hamilton is capable of playing guard or center.
Washington, once he's healthy, could return punts and will compete for a change
of pace role at running back. White figures to handle a short-yardage role.
St. Louis Rams
Monday: Re-signed DT Gary Gibson.
Tuesday: Traded DL Adam Carriker a fifth-round pick (No. 163 overall) and a
seventh-round pick (No. 208 overall) to the Washington Redskins for a
fifth-round pick (No. 135 overall) and a seventh-round pick (No. 211 overall).
Comments: Carriker wasn't healthy the past two seasons and wasn't a really good
fit for their 4-3 scheme.
Gibson was not tendered as a restricted free agent, thus giving him the chance
to sign with any other team and the Rams would not have received any
compensation back in return.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tuesday: Traded QB Byron Leftwich to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2010
seventh-round pick, re-signed CB Elbert Mack.
Wednesday: Re-signed LB Barrett Ruud.
Comments: Leftwich carries a $2 million base salary for this season and is
signed through 2011. A source said he also carries a roster bonus of $3.5
million, but it's not known when it's due.
Mack was an exclusive rights free agent.
Ruud signed his one-year RFA tender.
Tennessee Titans
Monday: Re-signed QB Chris Simms.
Thursday: Re-signed DT Tony Brown.
Saturday: Traded RB LenDale White, DT Kevin Vickerson, 2010 fourth and
sixth-round picks from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for 2010 fourth and
sixth-round picks.
Comments: Simms will take over the No. 3 role at the position.
Brown, who was a restricted free agent, signed a three-year deal.
Second-year RB Javon Ringer now becomes Chris Johnson's backup. Tennessee is
deep at defensive tackle, so they felt they could deal Vickerson.
Washington Redskins
Monday: Signed RB Ryan Torain, signed WR Marques Hagans, signed WR Roydell
Williams, signed DT Howard Green.
Tuesday: Acquired DL Adam Carriker and a fifth-round pick (No. 163 overall) and
seventh-round pick (No. 208 overall) from the St. Louis Rams in exchange for a
fifth-round pick (No. 135 overall) and a seventh-round pick (No. 211).
Saturday: Traded QB Jason Campbell to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for a 2012
fourth-round pick.
Comments: All four players who signed on Monday participated in Washington's minicamp last week on a
tryout basis. The first three players didn't play
last season.
Carriker missed all of last season due to shoulder problems. He also had
shoulder problems in 2007. If healthy, Carriker will be a perfect fit in
Washington's 3-4 defense at end.
Rex Grossman is now the backup for starting QB Donovan McNabb.
