Pre-Draft Needs: OLB, G, DE, WR, CB
Players Added
Round 1-Kyle Wilson/CB - CB Antonio Cromartie is on the final year of his rookie
contract and he hasn't played well the past two years. Wilson could push him for
playing time this season, but he could eventually replace him as a starter in
2011 and beyond. At the very least, Wilson will upgrade the nickel position for
this team in 2010.
Round 2-Vladimir Ducasse/G - The Jets made a decision prior to the draft that
Ducasse was going to be the replacement for starting LG Alan Faneca. While
Ducasse played left tackle in college, many personnel evaluators believed he
could transition inside at the NFL level.
Round 4-Joe McKnight/RB - With the decision to deal away RB Leon Washington,
McKnight was drafted to replace Washington's change of pace role.
Round 5-John Conner/FB - Conner was drafted to be the eventual replacement for
starting FB Tony Richardson, who turns 39 in December.
Post-Draft Needs
Outside Linebacker - Starting OLB Bryan Thomas' sack numbers were poor last
season and he turns 31 next month. The only quality pass rusher the team has is
Calvin Pace.
Defensive End - Veteran DE Shaun Ellis turns 33 next month and it doesn't appear
that the team has anyone left on the 80-man roster who is capable of replacing
him. The Jets also have very little depth at either end spot.
Wide Receiver - Santonio Holmes is suspended for the first four games of this
season. Also keep in mind that he's on the last year of his rookie contract. WR
Braylon Edwards is also playing on a one-year deal, so this position could be
quite bare after 2010.
