More bad news for Plaxico Burress: For the second time, the former Giants receiver is turned down in his request for a work release program. He can't reapply until next June.

Any hope Plaxico Burress had of getting out of jail early ended Tuesday when the former New York Giants receiver was turned down for a work release program. Burress won't be able to reapply for a work furlough until next June.

According to the Associated Press, the New York state Department of Correctional Services said the nature of the crime merited denying him the request, which would have allowed him to spend a portion of his time free and working.

The agency said: "The serious and negative impact illegal guns have on the community coupled with (the) dangerous nature of the weapon discharging in a public place renders him unsuitable for work release."

Burress was given a two-year sentence after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a weapon after accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a New York nightclub. He began serving the sentence last September.

This marked the second time Burress has been denied a request for a work furlough.
