Sep 14, 2002

A productive college quarterback, Jason Gesser has played a major role in turning around the fortunes of Washington State football, getting the program back to where it was when Ryan Leaf led the team. Ironically Gesser's draft ranking will not be nearly that of Leaf's but in the end he could have a much more productive NFL career!

Full Name:    Jason Gesser                 School:      Washington

Ht:    6-0                   Wt:   195               40:    4.83

Year:   5Sr              Number:      17

Scouting Report:

The Good: Competitive signal caller that makes plays with his arm or legs.  Quick setting up to throw with solid footwork, elusive and gets outside the pocket, making plays on the move.  Avoids the rush but also withstands defenders to get the pass off.  Has a good feel for what is happening on the field, knows where his receivers are and always displays leadership skills.  Spreads the ball around to all his targets.  Puts air under his deep throws, places them nicely for receivers and shows some ability to get the ball downfield.  Also times the release of his outs nicely as wide outs do not wait on the pass.

The Bad: Ball placement is low during his set-up, must gather himself prior to releasing the pass and does not set his feet.  Shaky as the pocket collapses around him, locks onto his primary target and arm strength would be classified as adequate.  Must do a better job selling the play action pass and learn to put more touch on his throws.

The Skinny: Not a great amount of upside and as of now, looks like a competent back-up.
