Dec 3, 2002

Athletic, explosive and undersized; the prototypical Florida State defensive lineman and the perfect way to describe Darnell Dockett. But after blowing people away his first two years in the program and looking like the next great Seminole lineman, Dockett has been a bit stagnant this season.

Full Name: Darnell Dockett    School: Florida St

Ht: 6-3     Wt: 290          40: 4.93

Year: 4Jr    Number: 45

Stats/ Bio:

2001: Started all 12 games.  First team All-ACC selection, setting a new FSU single season record with 22 tackles for loss and established a new school record with five tackles for loss in the final game of the regular season against Georgia Tech.  Led all defensive linemen with 68 total tackle and also led the team with 19 quarterback hurries.

2000: Second team All-ACC as a freshman, starting the last 10 games of the year recording 66/19/7.  Also recorded 18 quarterback hurries.

Scouting Report:

The Good: Athletic, explosive lineman in the Florida State mold.  Plays low to the ground with leverage, has a terrific burst of closing speed and nicely redirects to the action.  Immediately alters his angle of attack, quick and fluid changing directions which helps him make plays laterally out to the flanks.  Excellent range and rarely off his feet.

The Bad: Not big or powerful, lacks the strong base and pushed off the line by opponents.  Having a very non-descript campaign in 2002, not taking his game to the next level.

The Skinny:  A lot of upside but would be best served staying in school another year developing his game and his body.
