Bio by Mike Fowler
Hired by the Lions on February 4th, 2003.
One of the younger coaches in the league, Lions' head coach Steve Mariucci is known as an offensive innovator.
Mariucci compiled a 49-36-0 as head coach of the San Francisco 49'ers between 1997 and 2002. One of thirteen head coaches since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 to lead his team to a division title in his first season.
He established an NFL mark for consecutive wins by a rookie head coach with an 11-game winning streak. He served as quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers (1992-95). His first pro position was in 1985 when he was receivers coach for the USFL’s Orlando Renegades. Later that fall, he had a brief stint with the Los Angeles Rams as quality control coach. |
