Hired by the Lions on February 4th, 2003.

One of the younger coaches in the league, Lions' head coach Steve Mariucci is known as an offensive innovator.

Mariucci compiled a 49-36-0 as head coach of the San Francisco 49'ers between 1997 and 2002. One of thirteen head coaches since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 to lead his team to a division title in his first season.

He established an NFL mark for consecutive wins by a rookie head coach with an 11-game winning streak. He served as quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers (1992-95). His first pro position was in 1985 when he was receivers coach for the USFL’s Orlando Renegades. Later that fall, he had a brief stint with the Los Angeles Rams as quality control coach.
