| Biography: |
The Vikings made Nate Burleson their third-round pick because they felt he was one of the most polished receivers in the 2003 draft and had him ranked as a late first-round prospect.
Turns out, he proved his polish when he started nine games, fifth-most in franchise history for a rookie wide receiver and hasn’t looked back since.
2004: Led the Vikings with 1,006 receiving yards, becoming the ninth player in team history to surpass 1,000 yards receiving. Ranked seventh in the NFC with nine touchdown receptions, and his 91-yard punt return for a touchdown against Indianapolis was the longest in the NFL in 2004 and the second-longest in team history. Finished the season with 68 catches and 25 punt returns.
2003: After being the 71st overall selection in the draft, Burleson caught 29 pases for 455 yards and two touchdowns. He ranks fifth in franchise history for receiving yards by a rookie.
College: Led the NCAA in receptions per game (11.5) and yards per game (135.8) as a senior. Partial qualifier in 1999 who came out early. Academically ineligible to play as a true freshman, he was on track to graduate by the end of the summer of 2003 and could have returned to Nevada for a fifth season, according to school officials. Caught 57 passes for 921 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2000; 53-737-2 in 2001; led the nation as a senior with 138-1,629-12 in 2002. Missed most of three games in ’01 with a shoulder separation. Recorded receptions of 80, 91 and 95 yards during his college career. Was a Biletnikoff finalist in ’02. General Studies major.
