Rodney Thomas has improved dramatically over the course of his career at Clemson, moving from a special teams peformer to starting middle linebacker. Tough linebacker and vocal leader that will likely be a surprise peformer in the ACC in 2002. Recipient of Iron Man Award among defensive players for his durability in a vote by the Clemson coaching staff for 2001...one of two returning players who had at least 100 tackles last year...Thomas had six in the bowl win over Louisiana Tech to reach an even 100 for the season...also had a sack in that game and finished the year tied for second on the team in tackles for loss with nine...started 11 of the 12 games, he played 660 snaps... ranked fourth on the team and 18th in the ACC in tackles with 100...had season high 16 stops in win over Wake Forest.
High School
Recorded 138 tackle with four sacks and 12 caused fumbles as a senior at West Laurens High School...also was a pass coverage linebacker...preseason and postseason All-American, and #5 linebacker prospect in the Southeast by Southeastern Recruiting Alliance...#40 player in the Southeast according to SuperPrep...first-team all-state and All-Middle Georgia selection as a senior...best game of his senior season came against Brooks County High when he had 16 solo tackles...also played fullback, and had 745 yards rushing and nine touchdowns as a senior...team MVP as a senior...had 132 tackles as a junior...All-Region 3-AA selection as a junior...played as a defensive end as a sophomore...four-year letterman and three-year starter at West Laurens High...won team's off-season conditioning award four straight years. |
