| Biography: |
| Gerald Hayes has been a steady yet underrated defender in the Big East; a conference with a lot of big names and early picks coming from the team down south. Still, Hayes keeps moving forward and a terrific senior season has him moving north up draft boards.
Gerald has been termed “the best middle linebacker in college football” by Mel Kiper, and he certainly earned that designation as a leader and anchor of the 8th-ranked defense in 2002.
Gerald saw extensive action his freshman year in 1999, and went on to be the starter for the 2000, 2001, and 2002 seasons. He was named Second Team All-Big East in 2000 and First Team in 2001 and 2002. He recorded over 100 tackles each season, 2000 through 2002, and was the first Pitt player to do that since All-American Jerry Olsavsky.
At Passaic County Technical Institute in New Jersey, Gerald was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection at running back. |
