How Acquired: Drafted No. 7 overall by the Vikings in 2007.

2008: Became the first Vikings RB to lead the league in rushing with 1,760 yards, a new single-season record for the franchise. Had a 4.8-yard average on 363 attempts, including 10 touchdowns. Caught 21 passes for 125 yards and returned one kick 16 yards. Earned his second career Pro Bowl honor in as many years and was a first-team AP All-Pro, the Bert Bell Player of the Year by the Maxwell Club and one of three finalists for the Fed Ex Ground Player of the Year. Is only the fifth NFL player to rush for 3,000 yards in his first two NFL seasons. Set the team record with 10 100-yard rushing games in a season. In 2007 and 2008, was second only to LaDainian Tomlinson for rushing touchdowns (22 to Tomlinson’s 26) over those two seasons.

2007: Earned numerous awards in his rookie season, including Offensive Rookie of the Year, Associated Press All-Pro Second-Team and Pro Bowl MVP. Broke the franchise and NFL record for most rushing yards in a game with 296 against San Diego (which was a top-10 rushing defense at the time). Led the NFC and ranked second in the NFL with 1,341 yards despite missing more than two games with a sprained lateral collateral ligament. Was a major part of the Vikings’ No. 1 rushing offense in the league and the franchise record of 2,634 yards. Tied for second in the NFL with 12 rushing touchdowns. Trailed only Robert Smith’s 1,521 in 2000 for the most rushing yards in a Vikings’ season. Became only the second Viking to have two games with three rushing touchdowns in one season. Rushed for 100 yards six times throughout the season, second-best in team history. Broke the team record with 361 combined yards (224 rushing, 128 on kickoff returns and 9 receiving) against Chicago. Tied a Vikings record with seven plays of 50 yards or more in one season (four rushing, two on kickoff returns and one receiving). Named NFL Rookie of the Month for September and October and named NFC Offensive Player of the Week twice.

College: Three-year starter at Oklahoma who rushed 747 times for 4,306 yards and 41 touchdowns. Had his best rushing season as a true freshman (339-2,040-15). Missed time in each of his three years – suffering a shoulder injury in 2004, a high ankle sprain in 2005 and a broken collarbone in 2006. Finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting as a sophomore. Was a frontrunner for the Heisman before breaking his collarbone.
