The 6-0, 195-pound Furrey entered the league as an undrafted college free agent with Indianapolis in 2000. He played one year with the Las Vegas Outlaws of the XFL (2001) and two years with the New York Dragons of the Arena League (2002-03) before joining St. Louis in 2003. He spent three years with the Rams before signing with the Lions in 2006. In his six NFL seasons, he has appeared in 78 games with 37 starts and accumulated 198 receptions for 2,128 yards and seven touchdowns. He also has fielded 23 punts for a 9.3-yard average and 20 kickoffs for an 18.8-yard average. In his final season with the Rams (2005), he played safety where he started 11 of 16 games and registered 55 tackles and four interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown (vs. New Orleans, 10/23). His most productive campaign occurred in 2006 when, in his first year with the Lions, he hauled in 98 passes for 1,086 yards and six touchdowns. His reception total that year led the NFC and was second in the NFL.
Furrey totaled 242 receptions for 3,544 yards and 27 touchdowns in his three-year career at Northern Iowa (1997-99). He began his collegiate stint as a walk-on at Ohio State in 1995 before transferring. Born May 12, 1977 in Grove City, Ohio, Furrey attended Hilliard (Ohio) High School.
