The Philadelphia Eagles have placed starting ORT Shawn Andrews (back)
on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday. Backup RT Winston Justice
will remain in the starting lineup in Andrews' place. Justice started last
week's game against the Carolina Panthers and played well. Andrews did not play
in any of the four preseason games or the season opener at Carolina last Sunday
due to the injury.
QB Jeff Garcia, who agreed to contract terms on Monday with the Eagles,
will take up Andrews' spot on the 53-man roster.
“It’s disappointing to lose any player for the entire season, but we have full
confidence in the other lineman we have on this roster to help this team
succeed. We wish Shawn all the best as he recovers and rehabilitates from this
injury," head coach Andy Reid said.
Justice, who is on the final year of his rookie contract, won't become an
unrestricted free agent next year unless a new CBA is reached.
With Andrews gone for the season, Philadelphia could continue to pursue
free-agent OT Jon Runyan, who worked out for the team last week.
