DT Alfonso Boone: Chargers Sign DT by Adam Caplan of ScoutNFLNetwork.com, September 22, 2009 at 5:11pm ET
Alfonso Boone Profile
To help fill the void created when starting NT Jamal Williams was
placed on IR due to a triceps injury, the Chargers signed free-agent DT
Alfonso Boone to bolster depth along the defensive line.
Boone, a nine-year veteran who played under Chargers defensive coordinator
Ron Rivera for three years and defensive line coach Don Johnson two
years with the Chicago Bears, signed a one-year contract with San Diego.
The 6-5, 305-pound Boone has appeared in 113 games in his career with 37 starts.
He spent the last two seasons (2007-08) with the Kansas City Chiefs where he
started 19 games at defensive tackle. Boone played for the Bears from 2000-06
and appeared in Super Bowl XLI with the club. The Saginaw, Michigan native was
originally a seventh-round draft choice of the Detroit Lions in 2000 out of Mt.
San Antonio College.
To make room for Boone on the 53-man roster, the team waived DE Andre Coleman.
